MVMA Ultrasound Courses

Dr. Robert O'Brien offers ultrasound courses out of his home in Nobleboro, ME throughout the year for MVMA members. In 2018, all courses will be offered 1pm - 4pm on Sundays. Please see below for descriptions of each course, dates offered, and links to registration forms. 

All courses are offered to MVMA members only and are at no cost to members. Upon registration, members will charged a $100 deposit to hold their seat. Following completion of the course, that deposit will be refunded. Thank you to Universal Imaging for their sponsorship.

Dr. Robert O'Brien graduated from Fryeburg Academy and University of Maine Oreno. He obtained his DVM from The Ohio State University and his residency in radiology from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a major in the US Army and a veteran of the Gulf War.  He was on faculty at the universities of Wisconsin, Kansas State and Illinois throughout an active academic career. He has over 100 peer-reviewed published manuscripts. He is an international expert in contrast ultrasound and advanced CT imaging. He founded the International Veterinary Ultrasound Society. He was on the examination committee of the ACVR for 5 years. Dr. O'Brien is currently the Director of Imaging for Epica Innovations, and Staff Radiologist for the Animal Emergency and Specialty Clinic in Portland, ME. He is currently happy to have returned to Maine and enjoying the northern New England lifestyle running trails and climbing mountains.  

 

Small Animal Basic Abdomen Ultrasound Wet Lab (3 CEUs) (January 7, 2018 and February 4, 2018)

This course will teach the principles and provide hands on experience with abdominal imaging of the liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys and urinary bladder in dogs. This course is appropriate for those with minimal experience with ultrasound.

Small Animal Basic Abdomen Ultrasound Didactic Lecture (3 CEUs) (March 11, 2018)

This course will discuss ultrasonographic manifestations of diseases of the liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys and urinary bladder in dogs and cats. This course is appropriate for those with minimal experience with ultrasound.

Small Animal Intermediate Abdomen Ultrasound Wet Lab (3 CEUs) (April 8, 2018)

This course will teach the principles and provide hands on experience with abdominal imaging of the adrenal glands, pancreas, duodenum, small intestines, medial iliac LN’s in dogs.This course is not a continuation of the "basic" course, and is appropriate for those who are experienced in ultrasound techniques.
